Fashion Sewing Machine

My order of the SINGER HEAVY DUTY 4223 was delivered on my doorstep 2 days prior from AMAZON. This has been my first official step into the world of fashion. I'm trying to satisfy my curiosity and interest. I figured the best way to start this chapter was order a beginner sewing machine. I opened it with my friend and my husband, super excited to discover how this thing works!! It's sitting in my basement on a table and a chair, awaiting me to figure her out. I will also be watching youtube videos to see how to stitch. I can't start yet because I still have to buy some threads.

This project is a learn-how-to-sew project!

The sewing machine overall costed me about $350.00. I thought if I was going to invest in myself and in this project I should get a decent one, and so far I have heard nothing but good things.

I watched a youtube video on the features of the sewing machine and learned lots already. There is a foot pedal that comes with the sewing machine; it plugs into the sewing machine and the wall and the machine turns on and comes to life. I also learned about the two dials the big one in the front with the blue stitching on it is the stitch setter (so the type of stitch you want). Always look at the black stitches FIRST the black stitches are what you get in the 0-4 area (stitch length) related to the type of stitch.

If you want the BLUE stitches on the stitch setter, set the LENGTH KNOB on top of the stitch setter, on the blue S1 and this will get the blue stitch designs going. The straight stitch is the one you're going to use the most! The bigger the number the longer the stitch length. For heavier fabric like denim you want to use a LONGER stitch length. Lightweight fabrics are between 2-3 . Those are mm settings.

The stitch WIDTH is up top and its best to leave it at 0 if you're at a standard straight stitch, because the knob is also needle position.

The next knob to the left is harder to move left to right there are THREE needle positions best to leave it in the middle for stitching the majority of the time.

The next knob to the left is the TENSION knob and 4 is normal. It's important to note get good quality thread, which is my next step!

I familiarized myself with all the knobs and learned what each one is used for and learned to adjust the settings on the sewing machine.

Hope that gives my reader some direction, as well, if you are learning how to sew too for the first time.
